The Opportunity:
This is a high-impact leadership role with full responsibility for the sales department’s performance, people, and profitability. The General Sales Manager will oversee desking, trade appraisals, inventory planning, and coordination with F&I and service to ensure smooth deal flow and reconditioning. This role also involves hiring, training, and coaching the sales team while maintaining process discipline and CRM accuracy. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Desk deals and structure unit pricing to ensure profitability and deal integrity
- Monitor sales performance, deviation reports, and weekly metrics to identify opportunities and make timely adjustments
- Appraise trade-ins, establish actual cash values, and coordinate reconditioning estimates
- Hire, train, and coach sales staff to meet production goals and uphold customer service standards
- Manage the inventory plan, adjusting as needed to maximize turn rates and sales potential
- Coordinate with service to ensure timely unit prep, delivery, and reconditioning
- Maintain internet listings and ensure units are accurately marketed across platforms
- Merchandise inventory for optimal lot and showroom presentation
- Work closely with the F&I team to maximize deal profitability and ensure smooth transaction flow
- Uphold CRM accuracy and maintain accountability for follow-up processes
- Participate in budgeting and long-term sales planning with leadership
- Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, manufacturers, and vendors
- Assist with dealership events, marketing initiatives, and customer retention efforts
- Foster communication and alignment with parts, service, and other departments
Qualifications:
- Strong understanding of desking, pricing strategy, and deal structure
- Experience appraising trades and managing unit reconditioning
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop a sales team
- Comfortable analyzing reports, identifying trends, and adjusting plans accordingly
- Proficient with CRM and DMS systems; experience with IDS preferred
- Ability to manage and merchandise inventory effectively
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills across departments and with customers
- Organized, accountable, and process-driven with attention to detail
- Open to learning and applying structured dealership systems and procedures
- Background in RV, automotive, marine, powersports, or related retail industries
- Able to work collaboratively with F&I, service, and fixed operations leadership
