Mechanical Design Engineer
The Opportunity:
The Mechanical Design Engineer is responsible for assisting in the design, development, and continuous improvement of propulsion systems, mechanical components, and new product platforms. This position will work closely with Engineering leadership to support product development initiatives, ensuring all products meet the highest standards of quality, performance, manufacturability, and safety. The successful candidate will have experience with mechanical design, CAD modeling, and product development within a manufacturing environment. Experience in the marine industry is desired but not required. Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage the development of new products from concept through production implementation.
- Create detailed designs, assemblies, and engineering documentation to support manufacturing and suppliers.
- Develop and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs), drawings, and product specifications.
- Participate directly in the development, testing, and validation of new products and prototypes.
- Continuously develop and implement product improvements after launch.
- Perform engineering analysis to validate designs and ensure structural integrity.
- Ensure designs are optimized for manufacturing, assembly, quality, and cost objectives.
- Coordinate and maintain 3D CAD models, ensuring proper fit, function, and completion of assigned projects.
- Develop detailed engineering drawings based on conceptual designs and product requirements.
- Troubleshoot design-related production issues in collaboration with manufacturing and quality teams.
- Interface with suppliers to ensure proper product applications, specifications, and installations.
- Provide technical product support to service, operations, and production teams.
- Maintain effective communication across engineering, sales, operations, and supply chain functions.
- Support implementation of new materials, processes, and product enhancements.
- Ensure timely completion of assigned projects and maintain accurate project documentation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
- Minimum of three years of engineering and product design experience within a manufacturing environment.
- Strong background in computer-aided design (CAD) and engineering principles.
- Experience supporting new product development from concept through production.
- Knowledge of manufacturing processes, materials, and product assembly techniques.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
- Ability to collaborate effectively across multiple departments and functions.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Marine industry experience preferred but not required.
