The Powersports Dealership Controller will oversee the accounting and financial reporting activities of this powersports dealership location. Reporting directly to the General Manager, the Controller will ensure that financial information is accurate, timely, and properly maintained while providing the GM with the reporting and financial insight needed to manage dealership performance. This is a hands-on dealership accounting position responsible for managing daily accounting processes, maintaining strong internal controls, preparing financial statements, overseeing cash management, and supporting the accounting requirements of the dealership’s sales, finance, parts, and service departments.

Our client is an established, full-service powersports dealership serving customers throughout South Florida. The dealership offers new and pre-owned motorcycles, ATVs, side-by-sides, personal watercraft, and boats, representing leading industry brands. With more than 20 years of powersports experience, the organization provides vehicle sales, financing, parts, accessories, maintenance, diagnostics, and repair services.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee the dealership’s daily accounting operations and ensure that all transactions are recorded accurately and on time
- Manage the monthly accounting close and prepare accurate monthly financial statements and management reports
- Review and interpret dealership financial statements, departmental results, expenses, and variances for the General Manager
- Support the General Manager with budgeting, forecasting, expense control, cash-flow monitoring, and dealership performance reporting
- Manage and audit accounting processes that include accounts payable, accounts receivable, purchase orders, cash receipts, deposits, journal entries, and bank reconciliations
- Maintain the dealership’s general ledger and ensure that account balances and supporting schedules are complete and accurate
- Reconcile cash, bank accounts, credit-card activity, manufacturer receivables, lender funding, and other balance-sheet accounts
- Review vehicle and unit sales transactions for proper documentation, accurate posting, deal funding, commissions, gross profit, and compliance with dealership procedures
- Monitor contracts in transit and work with the Finance and Insurance department and lending partners to resolve funding delays or documentation issues
- Reconcile new and pre-owned vehicle inventory, parts inventory, flooring balances, manufacturer credits, rebates, incentives, and warranty receivables
- Monitor floorplan activity, including unit additions, payoffs, curtailments, interest charges, and inventory aging
- Ensure that sales, service, parts, and F&I transactions are properly recorded and reconciled within the dealer management system
- Maintain effective internal controls designed to protect dealership assets, cash, inventory, and financial information
- Identify accounting discrepancies, process weaknesses, and unusual transactions and work with the General Manager to resolve them promptly
- Maintain accurate records for sales tax, vehicle registrations, titles, payroll-related accounting, and other dealership regulatory requirements
- Help ensure compliance with applicable state motor vehicle regulations, accounting standards, tax requirements, and dealership policies
- Coordinate with the dealership’s outside CPA and provide requested schedules, reconciliations, and documentation for tax preparation and financial reviews
- Serve as the primary dealership contact for banks, floorplan providers, finance companies, auditors, vendors, and accounting-related business partners
- Maintain organized financial records and ensure that required documentation is retained and readily available
- Recommend practical improvements that increase accounting accuracy, strengthen controls, improve reporting, and streamline dealership processes
Qualifications:
- Three or more years of experience managing accounting operations within a retail motor vehicle dealership environment
- Powersports, motorcycle, marine, RV, or automotive dealership accounting experience strongly preferred
- Demonstrated experience preparing and interpreting dealership financial statements, departmental reports, balance-sheet reconciliations, and profit-and-loss reports
- Working knowledge of accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, bank reconciliation, inventory accounting, floorplan accounting, and general-ledger management
- Experience reviewing vehicle sales transactions, contracts in transit, lender funding, manufacturer receivables, and inventory reconciliations
- Experience with Lightspeed required; experience with Dealertrack, CDK, Reynolds and Reynolds, or a comparable dealer management system is a plus
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and standard accounting and reporting software
- Knowledge of dealership accounting principles, internal controls, sales tax, vehicle title processes, and applicable state motor vehicle requirements
- High level of accuracy, attention to detail, organization, and follow-through
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and time-management skills
- Ability to explain financial information clearly to the General Manager and dealership department leaders
- Ability to work independently, manage competing deadlines, and remain hands-on with daily accounting responsibilities
- Demonstrated discretion when handling confidential employee, customer, and dealership financial information
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field is preferred; equivalent dealership accounting experience will be considered
